Macedonia-Kosovo border issue

Demarcation of Macedonia's border with Kosovo should be wrapped up before the Kosovo status settlement, a Norwegian diplomat said.

"This is my position and a recommendation. I don't know why this issue should be delayed," Norwegian diplomat Kai Eide told Dnevnik daily, Macedonia’s Makfax reported.

Ambassador Eide added that his position on border demarcation was mentioned in his report on Kosovo, but that later the process was handed over to UN envoy Martti Ahtisaari and to politicians in the field.

Eide also said he believed the province did not do enough to achieve the standards set out by the international community.

"There is a lack of sufficient progress in terms of inter-ethnic relations, fight against corruption and organized crime, the rule of law and private ownership," Eide told the newspaper.

Ceku: Independence by end of May

Kosovo prime minister Agim Ceku said he expects Kosovo to declare independence by the end of May.
