“I don’t want to be in the government, but I’ll give it my support. I don’t want to be the opposition when Kosovo is being defended,” the Serb Radical Party (SRS) deputy leader told daily Večernje Novosti.

He said that SRS MPs were prepared to allow a state of emergency to be introduced in the event of Kosovo declaring independence.

Nikolić added that President Boris Tadić and Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica must not “split up” at a time when Kosovo was being “usurped” from Serbia.

Nor did the SRS leader rule out the possibility of forming a majority with the Democratic Party of Serbia in parliament on the matter, in addition to the majority that already exists that opposes the EU interim deal.

However, he said that it was difficult to say whether he would agree to form a technical majority in parliament with the DSS until parliamentary elections, adding that the DSS had as yet not given any such signals.
