Media freedom fighter under police protection

Rainy morning in Belgrade. Two plainclothes policemen, close to the parked black SUV Mercedes Puch, stand in the busy Takovska Street, downtown Serbian metropolis. They discreetly watch the hasty passers-by that branch out towards Nikola Pasic Square to the left, and along the Boulevard of King Alexander, or continue to Kneza Milosa Street.

  1. Hi, folks

Had to return here after a collegue asked me what's "prices krofna". A spelling mistake, I told. Should be "princes krofna". And I explained what it is.

I, case no-one minds, I'll use this opportunity to be more pricise about what's bugging me in Hedl's article: It's like an article about the Pope in the Vatican Daily News.

What I call for is not a "critical" view towards B92 chief. But more defining view of the pressures he faces. You just need to be exact about his enemies and their motives. It's the only way to help a reader to have any idea of the situation.

And the way Hedl handles Matic-Vucic relation is below standard, I must say. What does Matic think about dealing with Vucic, a man who follwed Seselj and applauded to Seselj's comment "the happiest day of my life" when news of the assassination of Djindjic had reached Seselj? Come on, you aren't writing to children!

  2. I'm in mixed feeling after reading this article. In fact I'm... disturbed. How come an article by Drago Hedl - journalist for whom I have true respect - about Veran Matic, whom I regard highly, is so lame and predictably boring?

After reading the article for the second time (yes, it was a laborious thing to do) I come to some conclusion: the point of view, the angle of observation, does not offer me much new, something that I already haven't read. I'm not sure if the article even attempts to take me under Matic's skin, or into his head -nevertheless, it fails in that. What is offered is like a prices krofna: sweet thing, but one alike the others. A small amount of human contradiction is spread on the top as decoration.

Both Matic and Hedl earn a better... let's say it straight: they earn a more exciting article.
