He left behind his wife Ariana and five children, three sons and two daughters, and in October 2021 he became a grandfather to a baby girl.
In July 2019, Mihajlovic revealed that he was suffering from acute leukemia, but he remained in the position of coach of Bologna.
After three cycles of chemotherapy, he underwent bone marrow transplantation. All the while, he continued to work as a coach, only for his condition to worsen in the last few months.
Mihajlović was born on February 20, 1969 in Vukovar. He grew up in the local Borovo, where he became a professional in 1986.
Two years later, he moved to Vojvodina in Novi Sad, and in 1990 he arrived at Red Star, with which he became European and world champion.
After two seasons at "Maracana", he moved to Italy, where he earned the status of one of the best defenders in Serie A while playing for Roma, Sampdoria, Lazio and Inter.
He was a specialist in free kicks and penalties and is considered one of the best "free kick" performers in football history.
He shares the record with Andrea Pirlo for scoring the most goals from free kicks in the history of Serie A – 28.
He was the champion of Italy with Lazio and Inter, and with the Roman club he also won the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.
He was declared the best football player of Yugoslavia in 1999.
He played 63 games for the national team and scored ten goals.
As a coach, he led Bologna, Catania, Fiorentina, Sampdoria, Milan, Turin, Sporting and finally Bologna.
He was also the coach of Serbia, and in 2019 he received recognition for the coach of the season in our country.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino and FIFA Legends came together in Doha this evening to pay their respects to Siniša Mihajlović, who passed away today at the age of 53.

Very sad news. Sinisa was a great Yugoslav and Serbian footballer. I remember in my youth watching him score tremendous free-kick goals in World Cups and European Championships for his country, as well as at the club level.
God bless him and his family.
