"I had to publicly remind others, almost every week, that Russia is not our 'strategic partner', but our ‘strategic problem'," the outgoing EU Council President said. "I was even labeled a 'monomaniac', for being so focused on this subject", Tusk said speaking at the College of Europe in Bruges, as reported by Russian News Agency Tass.
According to Tusk, his main focus was to maintain European unity, for which "Kremlin's aggressive policy" was the main challenge
"I was (and still am) convinced that, in this game, what is at stake, is not only the future of independent Ukraine and the security of Central Europe, including that of my country, but the sovereignty of Europe as a political entity," he continued. "And I had no doubt that Putin's strategic goal was not only to regain control of the former Soviet Union territories, but also to systematically weaken the EU by provoking internal divisions", Tusk concluded.
Tusk said his efforts eventually "paid off" in view of the sanctions imposed on Russia over the Ukrainian crisis, which additionally strengthened EU unity.
Rosa del Ray......goodness me, how simple are you???
Russia is no longer communist. 30 years have passed, didn't you know?
Its like saying "don't have anything to do with Germany". After all, they are nazis and look what they did between 1939-45 (even though Croats, Albanians, Bulgarians, Hungarians and Rumanians supported Hitler)......
And in case you didn't realise the year is 2019...….. not 1969...

Tusk is a out of date Clinton era legacy. He is one of the very reason why EU is in deep division. He is just trying to salvage what he can of his so called legacy.

Of course Russia can’t be counted on to being a trustworthy partner since they have a tin horn dictator as bad as Idi Amin. Any country stupid enough to believe this should first consult with any of the former Soviet Block countries before letting the big smelly bear hug them.

Hey Tusk , you MORON! "Internal Divisions" were going to come with or without Putin! That's because the EU is full of "chiefs" and full of "wanna be chiefs"!
Putin has got to be laughing his butt off! Easy pickings!
This is the Founding Fathers of the USA explicitly wrote not go into alliances with anyone!!
Srbija is smart with it's policy: "Friends with all, Enemies with none"!!

You look like a monomaniac in fact and in truth Tusk. Go away stupid polak! You and your type of politicians are the only problem Europe has.

Should help his prospects in the States and UK in his next career. I think the the real strategic problem is NATO and its constant need to justify itself and its exenditure to the military industrial complex which is so important in the US.

You've got laugh at Tusk. Under his sophisticated 'European' exterior, he's another russophobic bigot just like his political rivals back home.
For decades the EC/EU was happy to treat Russia as a far away place, ignoring calls for agreement, i.e. classic strength v. weakness. It already changed the strategic balance by enlarging the EU, but more importantly NATO right up to Russia's border, not to mention a series of disaterous wars to make the world in the West's own image.
Poland not only tried to interfere in Byelorussia, it directly interfered alongside its western partners twice in Ukraine, 2004, 2014. The west decided that the strategic 'hands off Ukraine' agreement was void. It got burned.
Tusk warning only became true because of the west breaking even more of its agreements with Russia. It is a consequence of Tusk's own action, that of haiku loving van Rompuy and all the others that Crimea is back in Russia's hands. The West lost their high stakes strategic game against containing Russia. It's Russia's fault for winning when it was supposed to lose. It's not fair!
Tusk is a loser. And a very bad one at that.

Donald Tusk is a joke and never treated seriously. The position he holds can best be described as ceremonial. Only two countries in the EU spend 2% of their GDP on defence; Poland and Estonia. How does happen? Well they cut expenditure in other areas to buy arms from the US; naturally they are superior arms LOL.
Now if Russia is such a danger, I strongly suggest that Poland does not buy any liquid gas from Russia. What is amusing is the Poles built this liquid gas storage facility to buy gas from the US, but it was so expensive that it was cheaper to import same from Russia LOL. So, Russia is a danger but relying on Russian gas is not. Wouldn’t Russia have a lever on the Polish economy if they sell gas to Warsaw?
The other interesting point is that the Polish economy is tied to the German economy and always has been so this guy is talking through his arse to appease the Americans.
