Tadić confirmed that he had received a positive answer from the Russian president to Serbia’s requests concerning Russian loan support and the South Stream pipeline project.
“We have received a positive answer from the Russian president and Duma concerning our application for loan support and our joint involvement in the South Stream project,” said Tadić after the meeting, which, he said, had been of “historic significance.“
The Serbian president stated that many areas where the two countries could work together had been identified, such as the establishment of a crisis situation center in Niš and investment in infrastructure of roads and railways.
According to Tadić, there was a possibility to built new port facilities on the Danube and to make new investments in energy.
Russian Emergency Situations Minister Sergei Shoigu told Russian agencies in Belgrade that a final decision on the loan deal would be drawn up today.
Shoigu, who is also co-president of the inter-governmental committee for trade and economic cooperation, stated that the deal involved financing infrastructure projects connected to the railways and other projects important to the Serbian economy.
"It's free buddy, only a finger into your bankrupt friends' eyes"
In English a loan is different from a grant /gift. Is it not so in Serbian or Russian? Russia never gives gifts to anyone. Just ask the Czech, Poles, Romanians, Gulgars, Hungarians, Baltics etc. Russia's economy in on par with Saudi Arabia, Libya and other hell holes: just drill and sell oil.
--"Did you think that IMF is the only place Serbs can go to for a loan and be dragged around by their noses?"
Since 2003 12 billion dollars have been invested in Serbia. Russia is #19 on the investor list!!!

"Sick, really, that such an impoverished country would spend so much money buying influence in SE Europe. I wonder what Russia's poor and vulnerable taxpayers have to say - if they could say - about it."
-- In all likelihood the same thing American taxpayers would say (or grumble) whenever my country throws money around the Middle East the Caucasus and Central Asia to purchase elections and the allegience of tin-pot dictatorships.

A billion dollars? That's really only 670,000,000 Euros! Better in Roubles... Almost 30 billion!.. Hope some non-oligarchs see some of the cash...

I'm glad you can afford to turn your nose up at one billion dollars. It doesn't matter how you look at it, one billion is still a very large amount.
You wish you had friends who could do that for you. You seem very annoyed that someone is helping Serbia. Did you think that IMF is the only place Serbs can go to for a loan and be dragged around by their noses?

Having said that, where are the democrats in Serbia that elected Tadic in this debate? Shouldn't they be more vocal about coddling dictators after deposing their own?
Really, Serbia, is this the way you want to go?

Serbia wouldn't need today a cent from Russia, if the Oligarchs would have paid for NIS the regular market value. Now, they have Serbia's best asset AND the interest from a 1bn loan. I'm sure that Serbian politicians will enjoy the Kaviar parties with the Russian oligarchs.
But we know,.... that "accuses" come from the Western/Croatian/Albanian camp. Russia would never abuse Serbia for the Kosovo stance, absolutely sure. *Fingercross*
