LONDON -- Deputy Prime Minister Božidar Đelić says that Serbian citizens expect the EU to act in a just manner.

"If the ruling coalition, led by President Boris Tadić, is to press on with its ambitious reform agenda, the EU must understand that Serbians expect from it swift and fair actions, but not privileges,” Đelić writes.
The deputy prime minister says that the arrest and extradition of Radovan Karadžić shows that the new Serbian government is serious about meeting its international obligations.
"It has been often said that deeds, not words, are expected from Serbia. The same can now be said of our European partners," Đelić says.
He adds that recent events have shown that the new policy of disciplined partnership between the EU and Serbia is yielding much better results than the old one, based on setting conditions and sanctions.
"A fair EU policy towards Serbia must comprise implementation of the SAA followed by candidate status, a visa-free travel regime within the Schengen zone and respect for international law on Kosovo,” the deputy prime minister writes.
In his article, Đelić writes that candidate status for Serbia can be obtained towards the end of the French EU presidency or in the next one, under the Czechs, and as further proof of EU commitment, he cites the decision to send back Serbian ambassadors to EU countries that have recognized the unilaterally declared independence of Kosovo.
"Second, visa-free travel should become a reality over the next 12 months. We must convince people in the west that this move will not endanger them," he states.
The minister also calls on all countries to respect international law and order.
Đelić emphasizes that Serbia is rightly expected to abide by international law where Hague cooperation is concerned, even though the recent acquittals of Naser Orić and Ramush Haradinaj “justifiably outraged all those who sought justice.”
"Serbia expects the rest of the world to respect international law as well on EULEX – the EU Rule of Law Mission – and, more generally, Kosovo. We are starting a wide ranging dialogue with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo to redefine the international presence in Kosovo under a legal, UN authority," Đelić stresses, adding that no sustainable solution for Kosovo can be achieved without Belgrade’s participation.
"Debate at the September UN General Assembly, during which a consultative opinion will be asked from the International Court of Justice on the legality of the unilateral declaration of independence of Kosovo, will be the first steps along that path," the minister states.
He repeats that Serbia is ready to provide a crucial contribution to peace and stability in the Balkans, and called on the EU to seize that moment.
Đelić concludes his article by saying that "We [Serbia] will do our part, firmly and professionally. Just give Serbia the chance to perform, with clear and fair rules, and we can all share in our success.”
Financial times is the right media for political lamento :)) the world would listen probably, if Delic announces, that Mladic is the next step towards SAA - as it is written in the document signed by Serbia.

Đelić you might have good intentions but Brussels and the big members EU don't they operate as a gang of mafioso. They are only looking for their own self serving interests act and implement them ruthlessly to their self serving greed at the expense of Serbia and its people. For their multinational enterprises to have huge advantage in the Serbian markets and their self serving laws to have superiority. Their special made up laws will have to be implemented to override yours as Serbia's are not good as yours don't benefit their unashamed greed and their only interest of bigger profits for them only . So you can not say ever again no to them if you do you're breaking their laws and will be treated as criminals in your own house it will be all for them and nothing for you. When they have their foot in the door the hinges come off they are the masters of the Serbian house. Their is no going back or saying I feel and see that we are being cheated and have reconsidered and get out of my house. It will be all about their self serving greedy interests not of Serbia's needs or of its people. They will buy already profitable companies and take those profits back to their country's. The profits will not be staying in Serbia for the benefit of Serbia or of its own people or for the good of the hole population. But it will make Serbia much weaker more dependent as a colony of Berlin ,Rome etc and of their self serving hypocritical dictates. They will make them selfs even more economically richer stronger ,militarily ,influentially off Serbia and the backs of Serbs. Most of the workers in those bought out company's would be let go for the biggest profits the multinationals can make that is what its all about. Some of the Serb overseers for the foreign governments and multinationals will line their pockets with the hard working Serbian peoples money. They will tell you how good it is and how wonderful your new masters are in spite of the cold reality. Of course your new foreign masters their new loyal bought Serb overseers their arrogance of their superiority visa vi to the common hard working Serbian people will go up exponentially with out saying.

It is ironic that the old adage "what goes around comes around" is once again being proven true. For years, the EU, UN, USA, etc were lambasting Serbia into following their "national" responsibilities... "cooperate with the war crimes tribunal", "play nice with your neighbors (I am not talking about Kosovo)", live up to resolution 1244, etc.
Now the most ironic part of all this is that the EU, UN, USA now find themselves in a similar postion... "Keep your promises on Serbia's EU integration", "Respect international Law", "Respect 1244", etc.
What the West fails to realize is that though they collectively made promises and campain speeches that suited their agendas and soothed their domestic and international constituents, they Must put their words to deeds. The EU, UN, USA have vowed to help Serbia integrate into Western society, have vowed to help it overcome a tragic legacy of the Balkan wars... Now it is the time for them to do so. The people of Serbia neither vote in the elections of the Western empires or countries, they neither pay taxes to these Economic dynasties, however, they expect that what was promised to them will be delivered.
The EU will have to do some serious soul searching and find a means, however distasteful to Brussels to integrate Serbia into the EU... that is what they promised and must deliver.
The UN must respect international law and Push for the ICJ review of Kosovo's UDI. The UN assumed responsibility for Kosovo as stewardship of the region, NOT the USA, not the collective EU, not the Albanians. As such, the Security Council and the General Assembly must take the issue of the UDI to the highest court of international justice for the sake of either legitimizing once and for all the UDI of Kosovo, or to reaffirm the basis of ALL international relations (i.e. what's mine is mine... dont touch" territorial integrity and the right to exist as a country in a defined border.
Wars are part of human history, all great civilizations are and were built upon it. However to live up to the ideals of a free modern Global society the world must take a good look at itself and realize that unless it wants to repeat the mistakes of the 20th century... WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Afganistan, Iraq, Balkans, etc, it must find a means to end strife and solve problems other than War and the "Might makes right" philosophy.

Delic wants a shortcut because...Serbia did what they were supposed to do 13 years ago, arrest suspected war criminals. At the same time he wants EU to give them preferential treatment, they are working against EU and trying to destabilize Kosova. Those are incompatible and I have a feeling that until Serbia drops the K issue, Serbia will be met with only silence and delays and delays and delays
