During four month long cabinet talks, it has been rumored that the Democratic Party (DS) eyed the governor post. G17 Plus officials insisted that the post is non-political in nature and cannot be subjected to political bargaining.
Jelašić froze his G17 Plus membership ahead of the appointment, for the Law on NBS envisages that the first man of the central bank cannot belong to a political party.
G17 Plus said that numerous attempts to challenge Jelašić’s tenure in cabinet talks were rather indirect, and that the party refused to even discuss the issue.
