"It will be known after the meeting of the party's collegium on Tuesday in Belgrade what will happen to the United Regions of Serbia," he told reporters on Friday.

Commenting on the decision of 11 councilors from the URS ranks to leave the party, Stevanović said this had "no special meaning."

He also announced that "Together for Šumadija" - the party he led until it became a part of the URS - would be "formed once again."

The URS is in power in the city assembly of Kragujevac, where it rules with the support of the DSS, the SPO, and the LDP, while the Progressives (SNS), the Socialists (SPS), and the Democrats (DS) are in opposition.

The 11 councilors that left the party said they would not join another, but would form their own club in the assembly.

Stevanović left Friday's assembly session together with president of the SNS branch in Kragujevac, Radomir Nikolić, and when asked by reporters what they talked about, the mayor responded by saying, "nothing in particular."

"It's a private story, between myself and the president of the SNS councilor group, and has nothing to do with politics," he said.

The United Regions of Serbia did not manage to win any seats in parliament in the March 16 election, after which its leader, Mlađan Dinkić, resigned.
