Several years back, it was adapted into a contemporary ethno restaurant which has kept alive the spirit of the old and traditional, but also added new modern tendencies in lighting, sound systems and a large offer of drinks (wines from around the world and a long list of cocktails).
The interior is divided into two dining areas with dominating wood and dark brown colors, without too many details so that the spaced look simple and pleasant.
In the summer, the large and nicely arranged garden gives the entire dining experience a special charm.
National cuisine has taken up much of the menu, but contemporary international dishes are present as well.
A seemingly plain start with something called kovački zalogajčići van easily transform into an entire meal: we can’t just single out the baked beans or urnebes salad when all the other traditional Serbian entrées were of equally good quality.
If you decide to order something from the grill, expect large portions with quality meat, served with homemade bread baked under hot coals. Check with the waiter if vešano mešano is on offer, a very attractive specialty – several types of dried meat which is quickly put on fire before your eyes and then cut.
The chicken gyros with tzatziki salad is served with two sauces of which neither is traditionally Greek, but both go well with the piquant chicken rolled in a tortilla and the unavoidable French fries.
The offer of fish includes only smoked trout, and a portion includes tri large and tasty grilled fillets with Swiss chard and cooked potatoes.
For dessert, we suggest the pineapple with chocolate and coconut, and interesting combination of grilled fruit with a caloric chocolate bomb dipped into coconut crumbs.
Various entertainment is available in the evening, with live music on the weekend.
I was a student of the Faculty of Political Science near Kovac. I remember many beautiful nights spent there. My Serbian was much better back then than it is now. But I was there in 1969-70 and I want to come again one day.

Love it! We lived just few streets from Kovac, and it's one of our favorite restos to go when we lived in Belgrade few years ago. Good food, good environment, friendly staff, real Serbia! Wish to be able to come back again one day.

On a Friday night the music is mostly what you can find on Pink Grand Show, with very occasional forays into more quality music.
The crowd isn't your usual Pink fans from the countryside up at the weekend. Rather, its people with money, perhaps some with village roots and perhaps some whose parents were former communist functionaries...
A place better to go for food than for music.
