Croatia's government had announced they were going to impose a property tax on its own citizens and import tariffs on goods coming in from the region. Within days, they stood down on both fronts. Too weak to enforce such laws, but so desperate for more tax revenue that they are beginning to panic!
Anyway, this is great news! The manner in which the U.S. would give "aid" to Serbia and the rest of the countries in the region was not at all helpful. You're right.The only way US governments have been able to finance their deficits in recent years is by monetizing their debts through fresh money(Q/Es) The new debt remains, the new money remains and the obligation for all of its citizens to service that debt remains. Printing money has never ended well ,not once .As soon as the FED stops printing (assuming it ever does) then interest rates shoot up and there is less money flowing into asset classes like stocks and housing Then mortgage rates start to reset higher, credit cards etc too and any spare cash households thought they had evaporates and they’re plunged right back into a steep recession.
Since 2009 interest rates have been effectively negative, given inflation. Households have benefited from this but wages have not increased above inflation so although real hardship has been avoided it has only been put off. As soon as the interest rates go up - which is 100% certain the moment QE stops the country's problems really come home to roost.
Which is why they can never stop QE and start tapering the excess reserves sitting on the FED balance sheet.($4.5 trillion)The money system is fundamentally and mathematically broken.

Actually, its far worse than what is mentioned in this article. Trump is also cutting expenditure on all fronts at home too including health, education and social security and this is despite promising these would not be touched.

The US can’t afford it any longer as its costing an arm and a leg while the American people are being driven into the ground working long hours for the same pay they had 30 years ago.
The chickens are starting to come home to roost. They cant keep on spending at the rate it has been done in the past. This does not mean spending borrowed money has stopped as that is still going on. Trump is only trying to slow the rate of borrowing.
The only increase is in defence and that is a mere $70 billion which is a pittance when you take into account the spending behaviour of the Pentagon.
Trump is not doing this because he thinks it’s a good idea – he has to.
Its only going to get worse and not better in the US.
