All traffic is to be barred from the center of the city from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., while performers and street vendors will be invited to create a celebratory atmosphere, the municipal authorities said ahead of the event.

“We invite people onto the street to celebrate a unique day in our lives which is historic for our nation,” said Tirana’s Deputy Mayor, Eduard Shalsi.

On Thursday Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha held a meeting with Kosovo Albanian officials in Tirana to discuss the timetable of events that will lead to the unilateral declaration of independence on Sunday.

“I am following with deep interest all the action being taken to celebrate with dignity and restraint this enormous event,” Berisha said during the meeting with Kosovo’s Minister of Transport, Fatmir Limaj, and Lutfi Haziri of the Democratic League of Kosovo.
