"Dear people, since they are slandering me and lying that I am not serious and that I have no presidential program - here's my program," he said, and held up a copy of the Serbian Constitution.

Maksimovic then announced that he had to go to "an important dinner" - and instructed his audience to ahead and enjoy their Dnevnik - the main evening news program broadcast on Serbia's state television.

In surveys published ahead of the April 2 vote, Maksimovic has the second highest rating after Aleksandar Vucic, Serbia's prime minister and the candidate of the ruling coalition.

Maksimovic came up with his "fictional character" Preletacevic - a flamboyant parody politician - last year when he and his followers enjoyed success in local elections in a Belgrade municipality.
