Belgade-based Danas is reporting this on Friday, citing unnamed sources from Vucic's ruling SNS party.

They described Vujovic as "the most painless solution" who is "the most serious candidate because he is a technocrat, a renowned economist, a stable, reliable and practical man."

However, they said, current Foreign Minister and SPS leader Ivica Dacic is still in the running to succeed Vucic at the helm of the government. Dacic is described in this context as being "very useful to Vucic," while his invitation to SPS voters to support Vucic in the presidential race is seen as "significant."

"Some circles in the West would not be ecstatic if Dacic were to sit in Vucic's chair, considering that the SPS leader has close political ties with Russia, but unlike Tomislav Nikolic, he is prepared to balance more between Brussels and Moscow, so he is considered a better solution that Nikolic, whose pro-Russian orientation is pronounced, and as such he is not the least bit favored in the Brussels and Berlin circles," the newspaper said, quoting its sources.

According to the article, other potential candidates to replace Vucic include former minister Nikola Selakovic, and current cabinet members Zorana Mihajlovic, Nebojsa Srefanovic, and Ana Brnabic.
