Slovakia will not change its position in that respect, Kubiš told Serbia's state broadcaster RTS in an interview.

"We have no intention of changing our position in regard to our refusal to recognize Kosovo, and in this respect we are a minority in the European Union, but we believe that our position is the right one and we will persist on such a stand," he stated.

The Slovak foreign minister added he believed that Serbia had provided conditions for becoming a candidate country for EU membership.

"As far as Slovakia is concerned, there is no doubt that you are showing that you cooperate with The Hague," he said.

"I hold that you should become a candidate country for EU membership as soon as possible," Kubiš added, and expressed belief that the support for Serbia "in that sense was getting bigger and bigger every day".
