In an interview with daily Blic, he said that there was therefore no need for added engagement on the part of the Serbian Army (VS).

Ponoš said that a Kosovo independence declaration would be a legal violation, but not an armed attack, adding that such matters were not resolved with the use of the army.

The lieutenant-general said that the military had not received any orders to mobilize once Kosovo independence was declared.

Speaking of the possibility of Serbia getting involved in armed conflicts, Ponoš said that serious armies did not get drawn into conflicts.

Asked about the possibility of a state of emergency being introduced in Serbia, he said that such a situation did not automatically entail military action and did not call for any “spectacular military operations.”
