The arrest took place on Tuesday, the organization said.

The 32-year-old was wanted by Austria for "several cases of burglary, theft and severe violence."

In addition - said the Europol statement - he is suspected of "gravely injuring an Austrian police officer in 2009 during a routine control by stabbing him several times in the chest."

"As a result of complex investigations, the Austrian authorities successfully located the suspect and initiated the lengthy legal process with a view to extradite the suspect from Kosovo," Europol said.

But Austria's Federal Criminal Police Office announced on Wednesday that the suspect - an Albanian - will "most likely" face trial in Pristina - as there is no extradition agreement between "Austria and Kosovo."
