The government yesterday officially rejected any such proclamation, announced it null and void, and said it had a set of as yet undisclosed measures to counter this.
But today Tadić explained that "frozen conflict" does not mean the severing of diplomatic ties with those countries, "since that would jeopardize Serbia's interests".
As for what his announcement meant, the president, sworn in today for a new five-year mandate, explained that Serbia's relations with those who do recognize the province's independence "will not be of the quality they are today".
Belgrade will also ask the United Nations to annul any independence declarations coming out of Priština, he said.
Tadić repeated that Serbia will not go to war over Kosovo.
The newly re-elected president was sworn in at the parliament Friday.
Tadić took the oath by reading and signing the text from the new Serbian Constitution, after which the national anthem, "God of Justice", was sounded.
The text of the oath reads as follows:
"I swear that I will invest all my efforts in the preservation of sovereignty and integrity of the territory of the Republic of Serbia, including Kosovo-Metohija as its integral part, as well as the realization of human and minority rights and freedoms, observation and defense of the Constitution and laws, preservation of peace and welfare of all Serbian citizens and that I will fulfill all my duties conscientiously and responsibly."
Tadić was sworn in after the Serbian parliament had accepted the Electoral Commission, RIK, report on the results of presidential elections held on Jan. 20 and Feb. 3.
Tadić is the first president in the history of Serbia as a sovereign and independent country.
The inauguration today was attended by the top state, army and religious leaders, including Prime Minister Vojislav Koštunica and his cabinet ministers, as well as Crown Prince Aleksandar Karađorđević and his wife, Princess Katarina.
Do you really think Tadic can do more when it comes to Kosova? Are you suggesting he should take Serbia in another lost war to assert Serbia's authority in Kosova?
An independent democratic Kosova will be very good for all its citizens including the Serb minority living in Kosova.
It helps a lot if we take realistic views in life otherwise future generations will suffer. It is not Tadic's fault for losing Kosova but Slobodan Milosevic's policies in Kosova. We have talked about it a lot in this forum. It is time to talk REAL PEACE between Serbs and Albanian, no change of borders anymore, free movements of goods and people, application of European standards in human rights, cooperation in fighting crime and corruption and all Balkan countries in EU family.

Tadic will be frozen himself seeing the consequences of his wrong policy in the near future. I do not see him governing Serbia until 2013! Serbia risks to disappear! As an ancestor of Milosevic policy, Tadic with Kostunica contributed a lot to Kosovo independence.
Serbian mighty sovereigns (supported by mighty people) are blind for the suffering of Serbian minority in Kosovo, as well as for the growing poverty in Serbia and Kosovo. In their struggle to get rich they are finishing the big robbery started during Milosevic regime. The methods have not been changed much: undisclosed privatization, corruption, controlled media, non controlled growing monopolies, expensive alimentary, healthcare, scholarships, high interest rates.

The western media reported today that eu officials waited until tadic was inaugerated before approving the eu mission to Kosovo. Then tadic says that he will not break diplomatic relations with countries that recognize independence. Doesn't this prove that tadic is working for the eu and against the Serbian people? But tadic is wrong; he only has to break relations with the one country has been causing misery to Serbia for the past 20 years: the US! Instead, he takes orders from the US.

I would like to know what quality of relations is Mr Tadic talking about. This is all too ambiguous. Is he saying that he is going to send a strongly worderd letter to those countries that accept independent Kosovo or only talk to them on Wednesdays?
His people deserve to know more than this. He was elected to rule for them and not keep them in the dark.
Sadly, sounds to me like he isn't going to do much at all. Life will go on as is and nobody suffers the consequences of their immoral and illegal actions.
