BELGRADE -- Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci has held a news conference in Priština today.

However, his spokesman was earlier today quoted by AFP news agency as saying that the session will be called for Sunday, Feb. 17.
Serbia for its part will reject this move as illegal and contrary to international law. Earlier in the week, the cabinet passed a decision to declare a proclamation of Kosovo's independence null and void as soon as it is adopted.
Belgrade has support for this from Russia, which will translate to the blocking of any move by Priština to be recognized by the UN Security Council, and consequently become a UN member state.
But a number of countries, including the United States and some EU members, are expected to unilaterally recognize Kosovo as an independent state.
Belgrade will counter this with a set of measures dubbed the government Action Plan, the exact content of which is still labeled a state secret.
Kosovo daily gives details of independence declaration
Priština Albanian language daily Zeri published key points that would reportedly be found in Kosovo's independence declaration.
According to the newpaper, the declaration, expected to be adopted on Sunday, will include three key points – proclaiming independence, an obligation to implement Martti Ahtisaari's plan for internationally-supervised independence and a call for the European Union mission to come to Kosovo and NATO to keep its peacekeeping forces in the province.
The declaration is expected to be adopted by the Kosovo parliament with 109 of its 120 representatives in attendance, the daily writes today.
The declaration, set to proclaims Kosovo an "independent and sovereign state" will includes parts of the preamble of the province's proposed constitution which states that "Kosovo is the country of all of its citizens."
The parliament is also expected to adopt laws for Kosovo's flag and coat-of-arms at the meeting, according to Zeri.
The question of Kosovo's national anthem will be taken care of later, the daily writes, adding that the anthem of the European Union will be played at the ceremonial session.
The parliament would also swiftly adopt the constitution and five laws from the package of 34 proposed with Ahtisaari's plan.
The Kosovo government claims that the international civilian mission has been forwarded ten laws from the Ahtisaari package already.
If they haven't decided on it yet, I'd like to contribute my idea for the flag. I suggest a pure white background to signify Kosovo surrendering to the Eurocrats and criminals. And in the middle of the flag a giant asterisk (Times New Roman) to signify the reality that this new "state" will always be followed footnotes regarding its status.
Wasn't there a prize for the flag idea? Did I win?
As some of our K-Albanian friends have said in awkward English, "Good luck Kosovo on your own way".

Big deal. What will Monday bring for them? A declaration of independence from the North, frustration that the remaining Serbs cannot be wiped out because the world is watching? Isolation from world bodies because of their illegal status. Great fun, enjoy the music.

Kosovo:
30 pct living with 1.40 euro per day out of which 15 pct with 0.90 euros per day
about 10 pct illeterate
about 50 pct unemployment,
yep a real reason to party and a real reason to be independant!! Not even talking about the corruption, the crimes rate, the trafficking of all sorts.
It's a shame what the european community is currently pushing thru at the end at the expense of the tax payers, how many 100ths of millions would have to be poored just to maintain you surviving hishfull thinking and a terrible mistake Europe is making. Of course Northern Cyprus, Ireland, Scottland Basque, Corse, Palestina and so many more in central Asia do not have the same right of independance, they only fighted for decades and have florishing economies.....

"Under international law, the land of Kosovo & Metohija remains Serb sovereign land despite the imminent recognition of something called a "Kosova" by Germany and London and Paris. This Sunday, Serbian citizens of Albanian origin will renounce their Serb citizenship. The legal repercussions of this move will be significant. From a legal standpoint a UDI is good because the province's Albanian citizenship rights will be revoked permanently. It will be a long, drawn-out process (beginning with a complete blockade) but Serb sovereignity will be restored bit by bit.
(good evening, 15 February 2008 17:52)"
This is a very good analysis and needs to be considered very carefully. If the Kosovo Albanians are indeed so confident then they can flush their current Serbian passports through the toilet, burn it or give it to the UN (or whoever will collect them). Then it can also be determined who was actually born in Kosovo as well (and those who were not were/are actually illegally living in Serbia). By revoking your Serbian citizenship while Kosovo is still a legal part of Serbia means that you are actually living in Serbia illegally (and you can be deported, a practice that is very common in many EU countries). The Kosovo Serbs that will not accept the Kosovo citizenship will not be illegal in Kosovo as long as Kosovo is a legal part of Serbia and so the Kosovo provincial government cannot use this as an excuse to expel them because the live in Kosovo illegally. Holding up the law will also mean that the Kosovo provincial government will have to deport illegal people back to their country of origin. Finally, if Kosovo is so rich why did the living conditions for most people got worse during the last nine years (except for certain politicians with certain connections)? This is just one of the many challenges that were ignored but that will surface soon to haunt many for a long time. But what was to be expected after an illegal war and UN/NATO/EU mismanagement and a sunshine policy of denial, ignorance and double standards.

Kosova is rich, very rich, in natural resources and it si impossible to have much better or worse economy than the region where you live- provided that you have an open economy, which Kosova will have.
Add the natural resources and some years of patience and you get the picture, no?
(ben, 15 February 2008 19:12)

Prices in the region dont wary so much what means that if price of Petrol will be 2 euros in KS in Serbia would be the same.

No jobs, no economy, high crime rates, no industry, corruption all over the place, implies to Serbia too. Does this mean that they should give up the right to be a state? Mate, K-Albanians have survived worst than this for more than 10 years 1989-1999 under the Serbian heavy occupation. Indendent Kosova needs luck as well but also positive energy too. So please keep your worries for you and those that support you.

Well said George the Romanian. People in Kosovo will need lots of luck. No jobs, no economy, high crime rates, no industry, corruption all over the place. And things will only get worse in an independent Kosovo. And yes, Ahmet Sufi you should have a drink now that you still can. In a couple of months you might not afford a drink. Cheers!

Well, Albanians, what is to say on this issue, more than it was already said? Maybe only to wish you "good luck", 'cause you'll need as much luck as possible in the months to come.
And for the Serbs, the same. Only a little more: cheer up, this is not the end, this is only the beginning. So be strong, we are all in for interesting times!
From Bucharest, busy with the preparations for the NATO Summit 2-4 April, 2008, best to everybody!

I want to make something clear to all posters here. Often they use the expression "Serbia has lost Kosovo" or "Milosevic contributed on Kosovo's lost". It sound like Kosovo was part of Serbia. Take a look back to history. Roman Empire had its borders including Jerusalem in 1st century. Are they pretending that they lost Israel and want it back?!!!
Ottoman Empire had all Balkan. Are they pretending that they lost Balkan and need to take it back? Serbia Empire had the border up to central today-Greece in early 14th century. Why not pretending that you lost Greece too?!!!!!!!!
Napoleon lost his Empire but France is not pretending to get their "empire" up to Russia. They are not pretending Algeria too.
My friend, it is time to see the truth like it is.Kosovo will be free some day. So will be other region too. Today is Kosovo's turn. Please don't mess its birthday. Everything will be written down in history.

Nice one Thaci. Keep them Serbian authorities guessing. If I was in his place I would not declare the Independence for another few weeks just to make Serbian authorities take silly steps constantly. Of course, Serbian authorities should make declarations of annulling every week since the declarations of Serbian authorities have very short expiry date.i.e. Declaration about Kosova in December.

I think that all leaders in Serbia know that Kosova is lost long time ago and that this is a procedure that has to occur in this region, but they have no courage to tell this to their own people. I belive that Serbian people is a victim to it's own media that have gain so much hate for other nations in ex YU, they never show what their paramilitary forces did with civilian people. They never tasted fear of war. I hope that no more lives will be lost no matter what nation, as violence is not a solution for anyone and that we Ballkan nations shall take a example of EU countries as before they had wars but they saw that peace is better choice and they chosed the right way to raise their children in peace and prosperity on their bright future. I personaly blaim the media for so much hate that is in this region.
